Rome man, Utica man face felony weapon charges after traffic stop

Observer-Dispatch A Rome man and Utica man face a felony weapons charge following a traffic stop in Rome on Friday, city police said. Officer Zachary Hadasz conducted a traffic stop at about 12:30 a.m. on North James Street, near West Dominick Street, for multiple traffic violations, police said. Upon speaking with the driver, Anthony Roberts, 30, of Rome, the officer noticed open containers of an alcohol beverage in the vehicle and a handgun on the floor in the back seat, officials said. Roberts and his passenger, Kevin Monroe, 27, of Utica, were removed from the vehicle without incident, police said. Patrolman Hadasz then secured a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun from the back seat floor of the vehicle, along with two open containers of an alcoholic beverage and a quantity of suspected marijuana, police said.
