SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Oregon’s attorney general and a district attorney announced Thursday that a joint investigation will be conducted into the police killing of Robert Delgado in Portland.
The shooting occurred April 16 after a 911 caller reported Delgado had been seen practicing quick-draws in a park with what looked like a pistol but was not pointing it at anyone.

The family of the homeless man shot by Portland police had called for the appointment of a special prosecutor.
Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt and Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum announced on Thursday that their offices will jointly investigate the Portland police shooting death of Robert Douglas Delgado.
In the announcement, Schmidt and Rosenblum said they recognize the importance of always maintaining actual and perceived prosecutorial legitimacy and fairness.
Delgado s family had called for an independent prosecutor to be assigned to the case.
Delgado was killed on April 16 in Lents Park by Portland Police Officer Zachary DeLong, an eight-year veteran of the bureau assigned to East Precinct. Police recovered a replica gun. Delgado s family said he was homeless and had struggled with mental health and addiction issues.

The Oregon Attorney General and the Multnomah County District Attorney announced Thursday that their offices will be partnering to investigate the death of Robert Delgado, the man who was shot and killed by a Portland police officer in April.
The investigation follows a plea from the family of Delgado to have a special prosecutor appointed to review the shooting. It s bigger than just my bother, said Tina Delgado.
It needs to change. There needs to be accountability and I hope that we could be a part of that. I hope that this gives the community hope and faith. And I hope that police officers are thinking twice before they kill somebody, she said.
