The last two unbeaten boys volleyball teams in the league, Archie Williams and Redwood High, battled it out on Wednesday for sole possession of first place and pole position for the MCAL regular-season title with three games to play.
“We don’t have anything like this in St. Augustine,” he said. “This is pretty much one of the only places to go throw an axe. You get to have a drink, go out with your friends and at the same time, get out some of your frustrations about what’s been going on in the world.”
Quick and his friends aren’t alone.
There have been enough axe aficionados to make the Iron Axe a success since its opening in December 2019, even amid the coronavirus pandemic, said owner Don Wulff. Wulff, 61, and his co-owner son, Zach Wulff, invested $250,000 in renovating the former site of the Dug Out Sports Bar & Grill.
