KCII received accolades for its small-market radio news and sports coverage in 2020 at the annual Iowa Broadcast News Association convention in Johnston Saturday.
Former news director Sally Hart earned first place in the in-depth/series category for her reporting on Black Lives Matter protests and related happenings in the city of Washington, and third place in farm and agribusiness for interviews with a local dairy producer and specialist. Program Director Zach Ulin received second place for best sportscast, and News Director Sam McIntosh and News Assistant Mark Pitz received third place for best newscast. McIntosh also earned first place in public affairs for a series of programs on the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on those with autism for KCII’s sister station Raccoon Valley Radio.
