FRIDAY should have been Warrington Walking Day, one of the most historic dates in the town calendar. The history of walking day dates back to the 19th century, but this year it was cancelled for the second year in a row due to the pandemic. Lots of readers got in touch to share their memories of the special day from times gone by.
Yvonne Mattocks ‘‘I loved it when I worked on Church Street years ago. We were given permission to stand out on the street and watch the walkers go past. It really was one of the highlights of the town. I hope it will be reinstated next year.’’
