The Discovery Lab brings interactive family workshops to Dorset | Bridport and Lyme Regis News

Brave Bold Drama are touring The Discovery Lab as part of the Artsreach creative summer programme. It is home to Kela, Orchi and Amar, travelling aliens on an Earth exploration mission . They come in peace and are extremely invigorated by Earth science, be it plants, bugs and clouds, why things float or the pH of lemon juice. They re keen to learn more, so children aged six and above are invited to pop along to their pop-up lab to investigate, explore, think and wonder about the biology and environmental science underpinning everyday things spotted at home or outdoors. The workshop has been devised as an interactive family activity, brought to life with energetic storytelling and performance.

Award-winning family theatre makers PaddleBoat Theatre Company is heading back to Dorset this summer on a tour with Artsreach to present their open-air theatrical adventure, Rustle. They ll be calling into Winterborne Abbas and Buckland Newton on Sunday, August 1. PaddleBoat Theatre Company will create an environment where sleeping bags become monsters, rucksacks become friends and torches illuminate the forest’s darkest secrets. Born from the vibrant city of Exeter, PaddleBoat Theatre is committed to delivering high-quality productions for children and families across the South West.

Dorset touring arts organisation secures £120,000 grant

AN ARTS charity that brings live performances to rural communities across Dorset has secured more than £125,000 funding. Artsreach, a not-for-profit travelling arts organisation, is celebrating a successful bid for funding from the Dorset Council Organisational Revenue Support Fund. The grant, of £41,947 a year for three years, will enable it to continue its art tours, subject to coronavirus restrictions being eased. Artsreach co-director Yvonne Gallimore said: “The continued support Dorset Council is invaluable in enabling us continue to programme our much loved variety of quality live performances, reaching out to the heart of rural communities across the county. Our volunteer promoters work tirelessly to make these events happen all year round, and this funding recognises both the work they do, and the quality of the work Artsreach tours, and has toured over the last 30 years.”
