Etna s Molly MacGowan didn t let the stroke she had last year stop her from her favorite activity – although it s not something many people her age can enjoy.
MacGowan, age 81, is a figure skater.
Last month, MacGowan got back on the ice for the first time in two years at the Adult Figure Skating Nationals in Rochester, Michigan. She was the oldest competitor and placed fourth in her division.
MacGowan, who has been competing at events nationally and internationally for 18 years, planned to retire in 2019. A stroke in April of 2020 affected her memory and led to hearing loss, but fortunately, it didn t affect MacGowan s speech or movement.
