CAMPAIGNERS gathered at Alresford tip on Monday to protest against Hampshire County Council’s failure to remove the pre-booking system for visits. The system, introduced after the first lockdown, depends on residents booking with a car - limiting access, say campaigners. It excludes same-day bookings and pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooter users. More than 200 local people have signed a petition to get the tips fully open. Local residents Yvette Riley, the Lib Dem candidate in the city council election, and Sam Dalling from New Leaf Alresford have been raising this issue over recent months: “We feel that it doesn’t make sense that everyone can now pop into a non-essential shop or pub, but not the tip, especially given things are slowly returning to normal,” said Ms Riley.
