These villages include Kadur, Kukkehalli, Havanje, Cherkadi and Innanje. The pilot is part of a larger pan-India project by the central bank that is aimed at developing technology-led solutions to solve at scale for enabling e-transactions in both no-internet or low-internet regions across the country.
The three-month-long pilot – from mid-December to mid-March – will see around 200,000 households in these villages being given a Yuva Pay prepaid card enabled by Visa and issued by Yes Bank with a daily transaction limit of Rs 200 to conduct offline payments, executives of these companies told ET.
“The results of the pilot will then be shared with the regulator (RBI), which will study the results and determine the efficacy of expanding such a project at scale,” said Arvind Ronta, head of products, Visa India and South Asia.
