Yuriy Buhlak, a member of Ukraine’s Central Election Commission (CEC), left the country for the United States ahead of Russia’s full-scale invasion and has not returned since, collecting his full-time salary while living abroad, an investigation by Radio Liberty’s Schemes project revealed on Aug. 10.
A Schemes investigation revealed that a Central Election Commission member has been living and working outside of Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, with evidence pointing to the U.S. state of Florida.
Despite rumors, parliamentary elections are unlikely to be held while under martial law and definitely not in October, whereas a presidential election in March is still a possibility.
