The district’s Board of Education will hold interviews in Naknek with each of the candidates on Feb. 16 - 17. The candidates will also tour the community, visit the school and attend a public community candidate forum on Feb. 16. The new superintendent will start around July 1.

The Unalaska City School District will have to fill a total of 10 vacancies for the upcoming school year.
Eight teachers, the Unalaska High School registrar, and Eagle s View Elementary Achigaalux̂ Principal Chad Eichenlaub have all submitted letters of resignation, according to Superintendent John Conwell.
The vacancies are equally split among the island s elementary and high schools. The openings at the high school include alternative education and language arts, taught by Amy Purevsuren, who has been with the district for 13 years; high school social studies, currently taught by Ryan Humphrey; another high school language arts position held by Jacob Collins-Wilson; and seventh through ninth grade math, currently taught by Emma Carr.

Four finalists have been selected in the Unalaska City School District s search for a new superintendent.
John Conwell announced his resignation from the position in November and is expected to retire when the semester ends. The four finalists will undergo teleconference interviews next week, the district said in a statement.
The finalists include Helen Cheek, a director of grants at the Yukon Flats School District; Larry Markuson, who has 18 years of educational experience, including time as a superintendent in Montana; Maurice Vail, another superintendent from Montana; and Dr. Robbie Swint Jr., who has over a decade of experience in U.S. Department of Defense schools.
