Plagued by the notion that she may have transmitted COVID-19 to her child, a woman in her 30s took her own life last month.
Self-isolating with her daughter at her Tokyo home after both tested positive for the coronavirus, the woman was reportedly haunted by the possibility that she was the source of the infection. While both mother and child only exhibited mild symptoms, the woman apparently voiced concern to her husband about the chances of her daughter having spread the virus at her elementary school. He found his wife dead on the morning of Jan. 15.
“I’m so sorry to have caused trouble,” she left in a written note, according to reports.

Alex Trebek – Jeopardy! host from 1984 through 2020. The Northern Ontario native also made appearances in numerous television series, usually as himself. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Daytime Emmy in 2011 and named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2017 by then Governor General David Johnston for “his iconic achievements in television and for his promotion of learning, notably as a champion for geographical literacy.”

Japan has seen a rise in the number of people taking their own lives in recent months as anxieties brought on by the coronavirus pandemic take an emotional and psychological toll.
The trend is believed to have been exacerbated by the apparent suicides of celebrities and has had mental experts scrambling to respond.
Yasuyuki Shimizu, representative director of the Japan Suicide Countermeasures Promotion Center, warned that the risk of suicide has been growing in Japan, especially for women, and his concern is borne out by the figures.
Suicides by women began to rise in June from a year earlier and in November marked the sixth straight month of increase, logging an 88.6% jump in October, according to provisional National Police Agency data compiled on Dec. 16. The total number of suicides from July to November also rose from a year earlier.
New Year s Day is the biggest holiday in Japan s calendar, but this year s festivities were subdued following record highs in new coronavirus cases nationwide and calls from the government to stay home.
