Smart cities: A socio - economic necessity
Lal Bhatia/Viewpoint/Dubai Filed on June 1, 2021
The real-time data collected by smart-city technology equips cities to implement and improve systems for waste management, traffic congestion, citizen safety, affordable housing, water resource management, smart buildings, efficient use of energy, and renewable energy resources to name a few.

The urban population is growing rampantly, and smart city is no longer optional for city managers. It is an absolute necessity for cities to do well economically as well as socially
The conversation on Smart cities has been around for a few years, and there are several definitions for it. While scenes from Sci-Fi movies with flying cars and automated breakfast to bed technologies could transition from screen to reality in some years, it is not limited to that.

Futuristic Rendering Breathes New Life Into 1905 Laurin & Klement Voiturette 12 May 2021, 12:33 UTC ·

One artist, or rather, automotive designer, Yuhan Zhang, seems to have a passion for the famed vehicle. Tracking this designer via Behance, her resume shows intern and designer work starting with Volvo, through Suzuki and BMW, and finally arriving at Skoda. That makes sense as to why she chose to redesign the first Skoda automobile.
However, if you were to follow the rabbit hole deeper, you’d find that this design is actually part of a Skoda Design and Skoda Storyboard web series called Icons Get a Makeover, where young designers bring a modern twist to iconic Skoda vehicles. This is one of those twists.
Conceived as an open-top two-seater carriage designed for use as a fully autonomous tourist car for the streets of Prague, the interior of the Voiturette features a curved information panel while the wraparound seat takes its inspiration from the 1905 original. “I wanted to make a connection between the history of Skoda and beauty of Prague,” said Zhang. “There is a big display in the car presenting a description of the sights as you go, but it could also show passengers the history of Skoda.”

The original 1203 was the backbone of Czech industry. The reimagined one is a retro-cool campervan.

⺠Skoda designers choose favourites to recreate
⺠Will they become a reality?
The âSkoda lookâ is now firmly established, with models such as the Octavia, Scala and Superb all sharing the same angular design language. Skoda says its design ethos mirrors Bohemian crystal â because it blends function and style â and now the brandâs designers have it fused it with some famous models from the past. The project has been called Icons Get a Makeover; fortunately the designs show more creativity than the project s naming.
Skoda Voiturette A
âA model of this car once adorned my grandparentsâ shelf in the kitchen. Now it sits on mine. I always loved the deep red paintwork. The Voiturette A was Skodaâs [then named Laurin & Klement] first-ever production car from 1905 and has been recently re-imagined as an autonomous tourist vehicle for the streets of Prague.â
