Daylight saving time for most areas of Mexico will begin Sunday at 2 a.m., when clocks will spring forward one hour. The change will apply to every state except Sonora and Quintana Roo, with the exception of the 33 northern border municipalities whose clocks changed last month.
Sonora will stay on Mexican Pacific Standard Time due to a 2016 agreement with the governor of Arizona, which created a commercial zone with shared time changes. Quintano Roo chose in 2015 to adopt Eastern Standard Time, the same as New York and Havana. The decision allows an extra hour of sunlight year-round for Quintana Roo’s many tourists.

MEXICO CITY An equipment malfunction in an artificial river at a theme park run by Mexico’s Grupo Xcaret sucked a 13-year-old Mexican boy into an intake or pipe, drowning him, authorities said Thursday.
Prosecutors in the Caribbean coast state of Quintana Roo said they had opened a manslaughter investigation into the case.
The death occurred March 27 in a two-foot (60 centimetre) deep cave-like river attraction at Xenses, a park operated Grupo Xcaret right next to the company’s flagship Xcaret water park near Playa del Carmen.
Discoveries at the legendary Sanxingdui ruins in southwest China show that the region s ancient Shu state civilization shared similarities with the Maya, according to the director of the Chichen Itza archaeological site, Marco Antonio Santos.
The Sanxingdui ruins, located in the city of Guanghan, about 60 kilometers from Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan, belonged to the Shu Kingdom that existed at least 4,800 years ago and lasted more than 2,000 years.
China announced on March 20 that archaeologists uncovered gold, ivory and jade objects dating back about 3,000 years in six sacrificial pits.
The Maya civilization built its city-states around 200 A.D. The pre-Hispanic city of Chichen Itza, a key Maya ceremonial center featuring the famed Kukulcan pyramid as an important emblem for the Maya, existed from approximately 700 to 1200 A.D.
