“Exciting time” as plans being prepared to bring primary school pupils together on one site Junior and infant classes at a Wrexham primary school could soon be brought together under one roof. As part of the next phase of the 21st Century Schools programme being carried out across the county borough, Wrexham Council is looking to improve the existing facilities at Ysgol Yr Hafod in Johnstown. The school is currently based on two separate sites and although plans are yet to be drawn up, there are proposals for an extension at the Bangor Road site to house foundation phase pupils.

Wrexham woman looks back on life to celebrate 100th birthday in lockdown

A WREXHAM woman will be celebrating a milestone birthday in lockdown. Patricia Woodhouse, of Johnstown, has looked back on her life after being born 100 years ago today in Wrexham. She said: “People have made ever such a fuss of me. I feel so grateful for everything.” The centenarian explained how she was born in 1921 at the former Travellers pub, on Bangor Road, and grew up in Wrexham with her family running the business. She said: “My parents and grandparents have always been publicans and I’ve lived in pubs all my life. Mind you, I never got a taste for beer. Occasionally I’ll enjoy a glass of Baileys but that’s it.”

Johnstown Community Group Raises £1500 for local causes This article is old - Published: Thursday, Dec 10th, 2020 Johnstown Community Group has raised £1,500 to help support local organisations. A portion of the money will go towards the Community Cafe in Rhos, which is supporting 200 individuals every week by providing much needed food parcels and support. Funding was secured from Rhos Community Council and Fry-Fresh, a local company based on Vauxhall Industrial Estate, to the value of £1,250. Prize money of £230 was also raised from the raffle at Johnstown Bakery, which will be donated to St Mary’s Church who provide services for the surrounding communities including running the church hall.
