The velodrome in Ruthin was set for the Glasdir Estate but, due to costs, could be moved elsewhere

FRESH plans to build the velodrome in Ruthin could see the facility moved to another part of town. In September last year, Welsh Cycling confirmed that a piece of land near Glasdir, Ruthin, would become the site where North Wales very first velodrome would be built. Wales’ governing body for cycling partnered with Ruthin Town Council to make a formal proposal for the North Wales Outdoor Velodrome, following a review of tender applications by local authorities. A bid was made for vacant land on Glasdir Estate by the town council at the end of 2019, which received backing from Denbighshire County Council planning officers and Ruthin county councillors.

Olivia s Legacy , in memory of Olivia Alkir who was killed in a crash in 2019, is gathering pace

A CAMPAIGN to promote safer driving among first-year drivers following the tragic death of a Denbighshire teenager is gathering pace. Those leading the campaign, including Joe Hinchcliffe who set up a petition in 2020, and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar, met with the Association of British Insurers in early February (ABI). The campaign was set up in honour of Joe s best friend, Olivia Alkir, who was killed in a horrific crash on the B5105 between Ruthin and Clawddnewydd in 2019. Following the death of the 17-year-old from Efnechtyd, the ‘Olivia’s Legacy’ campaign was established by Joe, who was a witness of the accident.

ONE of the best-known figures on the Welsh eisteddfod scene has died at the age of 90. Sister Claire Waddelove, originally from Ruthin, has released her first book this week

Sister Claire Waddelove is a former pupil of Ysgol Brynhyfryd school in Ruthin. On January 12, she released her debut book entitled Our Father: A Biblical Meditation on the Lord’s Prayer which has been published by Gracewing Ltd. The task of writing the book began two years ago after Sister Claire had the idea of collecting Biblical texts related to the Our Father, initially just for her own benefit. She said: “You could say it is a book about the final destiny for each of us and how we can reach it safely. “And, of course, God Himself has written half of it. His word is alive and active, speaking to every individual here and now, as He calls us to Himself.
