A view from Wrexham’s Member of Parliament
Wrexham.com has invited Wrexham & Clwyd South Members of Parliament and Assembly Members to write a monthly article with updates on their work in their respective Parliaments and closer to home – you can find them all here.
Today, Wrexham’s MP Sarah Atherton writes…
This month, my report into the experiences of women in the Armed Forces and female veterans launched. This report was the culmination of a ground-breaking inquiry that gave women who currently serve – or have served – in our Armed Forces a voice. The inquiry allowed the Defence Select Committee, of which I am a member, to better understand what was going right for our female military personnel and, crucially, what has also been going wrong. The report made 35 recommendations to the Ministry of Defence, which if enacted will make sure the women in our Armed Forces are better protected.

FAW and Council set to co-fund 3G pitches at Ysgol Rhosnesni and Ysgol y Grango
Wrexham Council are continuning the roll out of ‘state of the art’ sporting facilities in a partnership with the FAW.
The FAW (Trust) (Club and community facilities funding panel) has agreed a further award of £200,000 to Wrexham Council for the provision of 3G football club hubs – subject to the Council contributing a match funding commitment.
The report before councillors explains Ysgol Bryn Alyn was also on the shortlist and assessed, however “feasibility studies have now taken place at all three sites, and due to the significant amount of preparatory work that would be required at Ysgol Bryn Alyn (likely to cost upwards of £750,000), this has been ruled out for the time-being.”

The school s highly personal approach to online learning has been highly acclaimed by parents and students. The past few months have been extremely difficult for everybody, no less for students and staff, who have had to adapt to new ways of learning and teaching. With staff proving innovative in their approach to allow students to follow their usual timetable. Headteacher Adele Slinn said: At Ysgol Bryn Alyn we are always looking to improve our practice and ensure students are given the very best learning experience. After the first lockdown students and parents were asked about their online experiences and this was used to support the school to adapt their practice to ensure students received the very best educational offer.
