Over the weekend, a smaller, but nonetheless successful, carnival ended for 2021 as a result of the planning and generous sponsorship of local businesses.
Pageants Villa Minto crowned its royalty with Florence Hopkins being named 2021 Villa Queen and William Wheesk Villa King. Cadence Residence named Phil Gagne their King, while Irene Hannan was given the honour of being crowned Cadence Queen.

Karaoke The Cochrane Public Library held their 7th annual Karaoke Contest with the winners chosen by electronic voting. In the child’s division the winners were: 1st place Kaylee Malherbe, 2nd place Elaine Brisson, and 3rd place Mavis Sigouin. In the adult division was 1st place Mallory Brazeau and 2nd place Melanie Brisson.

In the beginning the Cochrane Winter Carnival was run successfully by a handful of volunteers, then due to various issues of red tape and support the Town took over the event a number of years ago.
However, because of the pandemic and state of emergency that runs into what would have been carnival week, the Community Services Department and council decided against hosting the carnival for 2021.

Not wanting to see it die, Stephen Martel of Martel’s Auto Parts (NAPA) got the ball rolling with an ice/snow sculpture contest. So events are back in the hands of volunteers but is not sanctioned by the Town and the Community Services Department (REC).
