Red Cross Shelter in Yreka provides safe place for Lava, Tennant Fire evacuees

Red Cross nurse volunteer Mary Whitmore understands all too well the stress and anxiety one goes through being evacuated due to fire.  A resident of Weaverville for 41 years, she has had to evacuate three times due to fires.  “I know how they feel,” she said. “We re here to assist wherever we are needed to help and support people here.”  Whitmore was at the Red Cross Shelter at the gym at Jackson Street School in Yreka on Thursday offering her services to those displaced by the Lava Fire.
