From the Sidelines: It s good to be back

The lights shone bright at Miner Stadium on a fairly cool Friday evening. Fans lined the stands, the band played, and the cheerleaders cheered as the Yreka Miners football team faced Redding’s University Prep Panthers for a night of football.
But there were some major differences. It was not a fall evening in October – it was a spring night in April, and some fans wore masks, as did several people on the sidelines.
Obviously, the COVID-19 pandemic changed many things when it shut down the world in March of 2020.

The Yreka Miners cross country team had a strong showing in its first home meet of the year on Wednesday.
The Miners hosted Lassen High School in a Northern Athletic League Dual Meet. YHS opened the season the previous week against West Valley, where they took the top spot in three out of the four divisions. The Miners again took the top spot in three races: varsity girls and boys, and junior varsity boys. YHS didn t have any runners in the JV girl s race.
