New measures are coming to speed up the adoption process in Jamaica and address child abandonment.
This follows news on Tuesday that a new born baby girl was abandoned at Coronation Market in Kingston.
On Wednesday morning, Radio Jamaica News reported that a number of persons have expressed interest in adopting the child.
In a statement on Wednesday, Youth Minister Fayval Williams said changes are needed in how the society and state handle the issues of adoption and abandonment.
The statement said there are more than 100 people approved to be adoptive parents and are waiting on the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) to give the nod for an adoption.
