Michigan Justice Fund grants more than $2M to organizations dedicated to justice reform Miriam Marini, Detroit Free Press
Twelve justice reform organizations will receive more than $2 million in grants from the Michigan Justice Fund toward an effort to improve inequities in Michigan s criminal justice system, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan announced Thursday.
Founded in 2020 as a way to bolster groups working to further equitable justice policy and assist those affected by the criminal justice system, the Michigan Justice Fund collaborated with 14 funders to dole out more than $2.27 million to 12 national and local organizations.
Those organizations include:
ACLU Fund of Michigan ($316,320), for the Prosecutor Transparency Project, a research partnership with the Washtenaw, Oakland and Ingham County prosecutors’ offices to examine prosecutorial decision-making impact on racial minorities
Reentry organizations continue to fill in the gaps to help people get IDs and other documents they need to start work and find housing after prison. Advocates and formerly incarcerated individuals say they re concerned for people who don t find someone to guide them in navigating the bureaucratic red tape.

That staffer helped him sort out which documents he needed to get his ID, and Felton said she texted him before his appointments. He now has his driver s license and is enrolled in training to get his Commercial Driver License, but the road getting here was rocky.
