A nine-year-old boy has died after apparently being struck by lightning on a football field in Blackpool, police have said.
Officers from Blackpool police were called shortly after 5pm on Tuesday to fields near to School Road to reports a child had been injured.
Emergency services attended and the boy was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
Police said, although inquiries are still ongoing, it is believed the boy was struck by lightning.
The boy’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

A young boy who was killed after being struck by lightning has been named.
Tributes are being paid to a 9-year-old boy who has died after being struck by lightning on a football field. Police were called just after 5pm on Tuesday after receiving reports that a child had been injured on a football field off School Road in Blackpool. Emergency services attended and the boy was taken to hospital but tragically died a short time later. He has been named locally as Jordan Banks. Police said, although inquiries are still ongoing, it is believed the boy was struck by lightning. Named as Jordan by his football team at The Clifton Rangers Junior Football Club, they described him as a shining light and an inspiration to everyone that he met.
