Date Time More young Aussies to benefit from Duke of Edinburgh Awards More young Australians will have the opportunity to take part in the world-renowned Duke of Edinburgh International Award thanks to a $3 million Morrison Government commitment in the 2021 Budget. Over the next three years around 4,500 young people aged 14 to 24 will be able to apply for a grant to help meet the cost of participating in the awards. It will be particularly focused on students who otherwise can’t afford it. Minister for Education and Youth Alan Tudge said the internationally recognised award had helped thousands of Australians develop important life skills over more than 60 years.

Date Time New facilities for students at Lakes Christian College Staff and students at The Lakes Christian College in Castlereagh will benefit from a new outdoor multi-purpose area, funded as part of the Morrison Government’s Local Schools Community Fund Program. Minister for Education and Youth Alan Tudge and Federal Member for Lindsay Melissa McIntosh today opened the outdoor multi-purpose area, providing students and staff with the new facilities to reach their full potential. “This new, top-quality learning and recreational space will make a real difference in the daily lives of the students and teachers at The Lakes Christian College,” Minister Tudge said.

Making child care more affordable and boosting workforce participation

Australian Treasury To cut the cost of living for around a quarter of a million families and to help boost workforce participation, the Morrison Government will make an additional $1.7 billion investment in child care as part of the 2021-22 Budget. The investment will add up to 300,000 hours of work per week which would allow the equivalent of around 40,000 individuals to work an extra day per week and boost the level of GDP by up to $1.5 billion per year. The changes deliberately target low and middle income earners with around half the families set to benefit having a household income under $130,000.

Teens to learn about consent in sex-ed shake-up

Education by Natasha Bita Premium Content   Sexual consent will be taught to children as young as 14 while primary school kids will learn about violence against women under new respectful relationship lessons to tackle sexual assaults among school students. More than 350 videos, digital stories, podcasts and other lesson materials will be available free to teachers, students and families through The Good Society website, as part of the Respect Matters program. Kids as young as four will learn about empathy, peer pressure, interacting respectfully and challenging discriminatory behaviour , in lessons for primary school students. High school students in years 7 to 9 will learn about relationships and power, and abuse .
