“America’s Finest City and the U.S. Navy have been strategic partners for a very long time,” said Dennis DuBard, 2016 President of the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation. “We are very excited to welcome back the Sea & Air Parade to this year’s schedule of events. This celebration allows us a chance to witness the outstanding service that our Sea Service personnel and their families provide to our region.”

The United States entered World War II starting with the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor 78 years ago today. By the autumn of 1944, there was cause for optimism the war’s end might actually be in sight. D-Day forces had landed in Normandy, Paris had been liberated, and the Allies were making slow progress in the Pacific.
As a result, songwriters, who had been creating music that balanced patriotic duty with a yearning for home, were feeling like Christmas might be a little less somber this year. It was the start of a golden age for Christmas music. Songs of nostalgia, geared toward soldiers overseas, such as “White Christmas” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” would see a new outlook with the new releases, more upbeat in tone and rhythm. Sri Lanka Navy proudly celebrates its 70th anniversary The Sri Lanka Navy which boasts unmatched achievements and held in high esteem as the country’s First Line of Defence, is proudly celebrating its 70th anniversary today (09th December). As part of the anniversary celebrations, a wide range of events are being held in every naval command , giving prominence to time-honoured naval traditions and religious events, under the directives and guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne. On the sidelines of these celebrations, capital ships of the Sri Lanka Navy have been brought to the anchorage off the Galle Face Green and the ships will be there from 09th to 13th December, with a view to reach the general public with better awareness of the Navy. The central theme of this exhibition is ‘This is Your Navy’ and ‘Know Your Navy’. Arrangements have also been made to make the public known about the prowess and role of these ships, through media.
