Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced the Federal Budget 2021 speech on Tuesday May 11
Treasury feared unemployment could reach 15 per cent and the economy contract by more than 20 per cent.
This would have meant 2 million Australians unemployed.
It would have been the equivalent of losing the agriculture, construction, and mining sectors.
Mr. Speaker, today the reality is very different.

It is well beyond time Sinn Féin TDs stopped referring to terrorists and the Provisional IRA as ‘Óglaigh na hÉireann’, a Fine Gael Minister has said.
Minister Martin Heydon said there is only one Óglaigh na hÉireann in this country – the Irish Defence Forces.
The Fine Gael Kildare Minister was responding after Deputy Aengus O’Snodaigh referred to the Provisional IRA as Óglaigh na hÉireann in an interview on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta last Thursday on Tús Áite.

As Auckland joins the rest of the countrry at alert level 1 a business leader is urging future Covid outbreaks be dealt with more clinically - by avoiding the imposition of restrictions on entire regions.
However, Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins maintains the government s approach is necessarily prudent and says populations are too transcient for more localised restrictions to be effective in closing down a virus outbreak.
As Auckland joins the rest of the countrry at alert level 1 a business leader is urging future Covid outbreaks be dealt with more clinically - by avoiding the imposition of restrictions on entire regions.
However, Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins maintains the government s approach is necessarily prudent and says populations are too transcient for more localised restrictions to be effective in closing down a virus outbreak.
Businesses suffered three days in level 3 lockdown across the Auckland region last week, followed by the weekend s level 2 restrictions, with rules around seated guests in restaurants and large gatherings banned.
The restrictions were prompted after a family in Papatoetoe contracted the virus. No source has been identified.
