New Year s message to Lakewood from Mayor Todd Rogers

“First, the City of Lakewood will continue to focus on ways to help our residents and businesses who have been suffering from the impacts of COVID, including economic losses,” says Rogers.   “Your City Council will also continue to carefully safeguard our city’s finances,” says Rogers. “Because of Measure L, Lakewood has been able to maintain full services to our residents, including seniors and others who have especially needed help from their local government this past year.”   “And with a light now at the end of the COVID tunnel, we all need to do our very best and be extra careful during these final months before vaccines are made widely available,” says Rogers.

Manhattan Beach State of the City: Rallying to protect small beach town during the pandemic

A new South Bay action group, Anti-Racist Moms (ARMs), hosts a Junteenth picnic at Bruce’s Beach to symbolically reclaim the space that was taken away from its black owners in the 1920s in Manhattan Beach on Friday, June 19, 2020. Bruce’s Beach was one of the only places in LA County where African Americans could access the beach. It was taken over by the city of Manhattan Beach in later years and annexed as a city park. Then, decades later, in 2007, the city finally rededicated it and returned its name. (Photo by Axel Koester, Contributing Photographer) 00034646A
