Riot Games investigation finds no evidence of misconduct or sexual harassment by CEO

The investigation Riot Games commissioned into its CEO, Nicolo Laurent, has found no evidence of misconduct or sexual harassment, following allegations made by his former assistant earlier this year. These have since been shared on Riot s website, with the company noting that it does not usually discuss individual cases so publicly but the serious nature of the allegations and attention they have since attracted warrants an exception. Riot Games has also requested that the court accelerate or reconsider the current schedule of proceedings, accusing O Donnell of attempting to tamper with witnesses. Following O Donnell s original claims, the Special Committee contracted external law firm Seyfarth Shaw to investigate these claims. Laurent remained in place as CEO, continued his day-to-day duties and is said to have offered his full co-operation.

Riot Games says its investigation of CEO finds no evidence of alleged harassment

Published 16 Mar, 2021 Riot Games say that the third-party investigation they initiated into CEO Nicolo Laurent has found no evidence of wrongdoing, and their own special committee recommends no action be taken against him. The investigation was prompted by Riot Games after a lawsuit was brought against Laurent and the company in January which alleged that he had harassed an employee and that Riot Games had fired her when she complained. The lawsuit is ongoing. The investigation into Laurent s conduct was performed by external law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP, who presented their findings to a three-person special committee at Riot Games. The special committee, as reported by the Washington Post, consisted of Riot Games board member Youngme Moon and two male C-level executives from Riot Games owner Tencent.

The allegations were put forward in a lawsuit filed on 7 January 2021 by Sharon O’Donnell, former executive assistant at the publisher known for the popular League of Legends and O’Donnell alleged Laurent created a hostile work environment when she refused his sexual advances, including comments about the “tight fit” of his underwear and asking her whether she “could handle him when they were alone at his house”. Following the investigation, the allegations have been dismissed by a special committee of Riot board members on account of a lack of evidence.
