Young County residents have less than two weeks left to register to vote in the March primaries. National, state and local seats are up for election during the primaries. The primary election will be March 5, 2024, with early voting Feb. 20, 2024 through March 1, 2024. The last day to register to vote will be Feb. 5, 2024 and the last day to apply for a ballot by mail will be Feb. 23, 2024. Per state law, those who vote with one political party in the primary election must vote in the same political party for the runoff election.
Filing for seats open in the March primary election ended Monday in Young County. Young County Sheriff and Young County Precinct 3 Commissioner had more than one candidate file for the positions. Former Young County Treasurer Kathy Mishler was indicted last week on abuse of her official capacity in office during a period from January 2016 to April 2023. Mishler was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 22 on $2,500 bond and was released the same day. She announced Monday, July 24 during a Young County Commissioners Court meeting that she was stepping down from her position as Young County Treasurer, effective immediately. According to the grand jury indictment, from Jan. 1, 2016 through April 1, 2023, Mishler “misused government property” in the form of credit cards.
