The May general election ended Saturday with elections being held for the city of Graham, city of Olney, Olney ISD and city of Newcastle, which had candidates other than the incumbents file to run in Young County.
Early voting was held April 19-23 at three locations throughout Young County. Early voting had a low turnout with 383 voters casting their vote out of 7,650 registered voters in the county, or a 5% turnout for early voting. The unofficial results from the Young County Election office stated 822 voters out of the 7,650 registered voters turned out overall, or a 10% overall election turnout.
City of Graham
The deadline to file for a place on one of the elections for the eight local taxing entities is next Friday with each entity. The elections will be held during the May 1 uniform election date, and are contracted through the Young County Election’s Office.
The city of Graham, Graham ISD, city of Olney, Olney ISD, Olney Hamilton Hospital, Newcastle ISD, city of Newcastle and Baylor County Water District are all having elected positions expiring May 1. The first day to file to be on the ballot was Wednesday, Jan. 13 for local political subdivisions. The last day to file to be on the election ballot will be Friday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. or until the close of the business for each entity.
