No 9 Florida State Earns 4-2 Win Over San Diego

WACO, Texas – The No. 9 Florida State men’s tennis team opened ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-2 victory over San Diego on Friday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center.  Florida State took an early 1-0 lead after clinching their first doubles win of the weekend. Loris Pourroy and Alex Bulte put the Seminoles on the brink of obtaining the doubles point against San Diego after a 6-3 win on court No. 3. Maks Silagy and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif clinched the doubles point for the Noles after a 6-4 victory on court No. 2.  Sophomore Youcef Rihane, ranked No. 24 in the country, helped the Noles regain the lead following his 7-6, 6-3 win, putting FSU ahead 2-1.   Junior Andreja Petrovic won in straight sets 7-6, 6-3 and brought Florida State one win from the team victory. TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State men’s tennis team, which moved up to No. 9 in the national team rankings released Wednesday, continues its season by traveling to Waco, Texas, for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. FSU opens against San Diego on Friday and then plays either 12th-ranked Baylor or Arizona State on Saturday. The Seminoles are 4-0 this season, including 2-0 away from Tallahassee, and own a ranked win over No. 7 Georgia. Last week, FSU swept the singles matches in a 6-1 victory over FAU. Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 12 singles player in the nation and is 4-0 in singles play. All four of his singles wins this season have been over ranked opponents, including the No. 1-ranked singles player Ethan Quinn from Georgia. Youcef Rihane, ranked 24th nationally, is also 4-0 in singles play with one ranked win. Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 12 singles player in the nation. All three of his singles wins this season have been over ranked opponents, including the No. 1-ranked singles player Ethan Quinn from Georgia. TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State men’s tennis team moved up six spots to 10th in this week’s ITA Rankings released Wednesday after a 3-0 start to the dual-match season. The Seminoles defeated No. 7 Georgia in the home opener on Jan. 15 after opening the season with a weekend sweep of Hawai’i and Cal in Honolulu. FSU is second among the six ACC teams in this week’s top-25, behind only top-ranked Virginia, and ahead of 14th-ranked Wake Forest, No. 18 North Carolina, No. 20 Duke and No. 21 NC State. No 16 Florida State Defeats No 7 Georgia Again

TALLAHASSEE – The 16th-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team won its home opener and improved to 3-0 this season with a 5-2 victory over No. 7 Georgia on Sunday afternoon. “Georgia has a great team,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “To beat them here is great for our program. This is two years in a row we’ve beaten them. We feel like we have a very good team, and we have a lot to prove here early in the year. We have lots of tough, high-ranked teams that we play but we did that by design. We’re thrilled to get this win.
