Researchers at Nagoya University in Japan have identified the role of an enzyme responsible for the cross-linking reaction that activates macrophage, which is important in the development of kidney fibrosis. These enzymes induce a common activation mechanism in both rodent and human macrophages, which will increase the relevance of rodent models to the human disease. The results are expected to be applied to the development of therapies for human kidney disease.
