April’s Traffic Safety Spotlight for SGI is speeding.
According to the Crown Corporation, 454 people were injured and nine people died in vehicle accidents last year in Saskatchewan in relation to speeding.
SGI’s Tyler McMurchy says the faster you go, the more expensive the potential ticket gets.
“If you’re driving at 20 kilometres per hour (km/h) over the limit in a regular stretch of road, that will trigger a ticket of $190 and two safe driver recognition points,” McMurchy said. “If you are speeding in a school zone or a construction zone, the costs escalate.”
McMurchy adds the fine for going 20 km/h over the speed limit in a school zone is $440 and three demerit points, while going 20 km/h over in a construction zone starts at $1,008 and three demerit points.

The city of Humboldt and the Humboldt Broncos Memorial Committee have announced tribute projects that will honour the families and victims of the 2018 bus crash tragedy.
The vision involves two aspects: a proposed tribute centre next to the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt where the Broncos play their home games, and a permanent memorial at the site of the bus crash. A concept of the tribute centre revealed on Monday shows it would house an exhibit gallery, ice surface and training centre. There is also an option to include a therapy centre in the plans.

The Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation will be asking the Environment Minister about whether counter service can be re-instated at the Ministry of Environment offices where it was discontinued two years ago.
It was March of 2019 when the provincial government announced closing 19 offices to the public.
Darrell Crabbe understands that there is a 1-800 number and an online forum for conservation officer support, but he says what has been happening instead is a number of people are calling the non-government organizations with their queries instead, putting the onus on them to answer or direct their calls.
