Virginia School Board Shuts Down Parent s Objections To Racism

The Fairfax County school board in northern Virginia ordered an upset parent raising objections to state-sanctioned racism called critical race theory in their schools to “go to your seat.” The altercation took place Thursday, after former Wall Street Journal reporter and local parent Asra Nomani spent three minutes scolding school officials for their blatant double-standards in pursuit of “antiracism” that endorses racism and cultural erasure. Nomani, who writes for The Federalist, began her remarks outlining dismissals from each school board member of parent concerns at Thomas Jefferson High School, then highlighted members’ comments declaring the parents toxic and racist for opposing racism in the high-ranking school district.

The current Grey Ghost image is the work of a student who won a design contest.  While some see a phantom, Antonelli said the color gray and the hood evoke other connotations, including of the Civil War, or hate groups such as the Ku Klux Klan. Michele Shannon, executive vice president of client services for New York Leadership Academy, and a parent of students in the district, wanted to volunteer in the schools. Shannon who was a finalist for the school superintendent position volunteered to facilitate discussions with students about the mascot. Shannon conferred with students in a voluntary focus group; Murphy said Shannon is set to host focus groups next week for BIPOC students Black, indigenous and people of color.
