Photo by James Wang As artists worldwide continue to mobilise to alleviate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on their communities, the New York-based blue-chip artists Lorna Simpson, Louise Lawler, Rirkrit Tiravanija and others have donated works to benefit a grass-roots initiative that donates all proceeds to local charities. The non-profit Artists Support project, launched in December by the art historian Clara Zevi and the Brooklyn-based artist Oscar Tiné, has so far raised more than $70,000 for local organisations, including the Coalition for the Homeless and the New York Food Bank.

Pupils at Fulford School put others first this Christmas

PUPILS at one York secondary school have been thinking of others this Christmas. Pupils in Year 7 - Year 10 were tasked with designing the school Christmas card at Fulford School this year to send out to care homes and members of the local community. There were more than 200 entries, with the sixth form student leadership team choosing the winner for each year group. After the school contacted them, Age UK asked for 100 of the cards to be sent to people without family who might appreciate the gesture. Deputy head teacher, Russell Harris, said: “The pupils involved were incredibly proud that their cards would be used to brighten up someone’s Christmas in what has been a very difficult year. Following this Fulford School and Age UK are going to look at linking further to create more opportunities to support whenever we can.”

Looking to Volunteer? Feed More WNY is Looking for Help

Looking to Volunteer? Feed More WNY is Looking for Help People are always looking for ways to help others during the holidays and this is a big need right here in Western New York. Feed More WNY is looking for volunteers to help deliver meals to people who need them this holiday season. According to WKBW, they are experiencing what they call an urgent need for volunteers. Feed More WNY is a combination of what used to be the Western New York Food Bank and Meals on Wheels and they deliver thousands of meals to people who cannot get them on their own. Just since March (at the beginning of the pandemic) they have around 3,200 new clients who need meals.  On average 21,000-31,000 meals are delivered across Western New York this year. That s a lot of meals!
