Chicago cop arrested for drunk off-duty shooting
A Chicago police officer who fired his gun during an off-duty fight in October was arrested Wednesday.
Joseph Cabrera, 38, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and disorderly conduct and ordered not to carry a firearm or consume alcohol while out on bond, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Cabrera, an eight-year veteran of the force, approached a couple in their car around 10 p.m. on Oct. 13, pulling up in his personal vehicle and asking them if they needed an ambulance, according to prosecutors.
The couple, a man and woman in their 20s, said they were fine, but Cabrera returned to his car and stayed parked behind them, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Michelle Corda said. The two drove around the block and returned to find Cabrera’s car gone, but the off-duty officer then returned, got out of his car and allegedly yelled at the couple to leave.
