BANGKOK, Jan 14:Â Star India shuttler Saina Nehwal was knocked out of the Yonex Thailand Open Super 1000 event after losing the women’s singles second round to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan here on Thursday.
In a battle of attrition, Saina managed to grab the opening game but ran out of steam in the end, losing 23-21 14-21 16-21 in a match that clocked 68 minutes. It was Saina’s fourth straight loss to the world number 12 Busanan.
In the men’s singles, former world number one Kidambi Srikanth was forced to give a walkover to his eighth seeded Malaysian opponent Lee Zii Jia after pulling up his right calf muscle.

Pope Francis changed church law on Monday to explicitly allow women to do more things during Mass, while continuing to affirm that they cannot be priests. Indian badminton players Saina Nehwal, HS Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap have all been cleared to play the Yonex Thailand Open Super 1000 tournament after the Badminton World Federation concluded that they pose no danger to the tournament following reassessment of their samples in Bangkok on Tuesday.
Saina had earlier tested positive and was placed in isolation in a hospital there. Her teammate HS Prannoy also tested positive but his sample later returned a negative result. Kashyap, Nehwal s husband, who was sharing a room with her, had gone into self-quarantine and was also retested.
