Yokohama – Teenage phenom Yuki Kawamura wrapped up his second stint in the B. League with the Yokohama B-Corsairs over the weekend and admitted this had been the most underwhelming season of his promising young career.
Speaking during a news conference following a 92-65 loss to the Kawasaki Brave Thunders on Saturday at Yokohama International Swimming Pool, the 19-year-old said it had been a “difficult season” and that he didn’t feel like he’d met his own high expectations.
The 172-cm point guard stunned Japanese basketball observers last year with his eye-opening performances for the San-en NeoPhoenix. He was able to compete in the B. League through the league’s early-entry system, which allows players under 22 years of age to spend up to three months with a team during a given season.

Yokohama – Teenage sensation Yuki Kawamura has drawn a spotlight to the Yokohama B-Corsairs, a club that has rarely been the subject of attention from B. League fans.
The 19-year-old signed with Yokohama on a specially designated amateur player contract late last month, raising the profile of a team with a lackluster 10-17 record and earning comparisons to generational talents such as Yuta Tabuse of the Utusnomiya Brex and Yuki Togashi of the Chiba Jets Funabashi.
Even someone unfamiliar with Kawamura’s play will quickly recognize his rare ability, including his speed and agility on the court. But those are only some of the attributes that make him special as a point guard.

Yokohama – Several months after he made his sensational B. League debut, teenage phenom Yuki Kawamura is back in the league in a different jersey.
The 19-year-old has signed with the Yokohama B-Corsairs under the league’s specially designated player rule, meaning he will continue to retain his amateur status. He can play up to three months under the rule and will be eligible to make his B-Corsairs debut in a two-game series against the Shimane Susanoo Magic this weekend in Yonago, Tottori Prefecture.
His home debut will likely be in a two-game series against the Shiga Lakestars at Yokohama International Swimming Pool from Jan. 2-3.
