South Wing Expansion / Alexandros N Tombazis and Associates | AVW Architecture

© Yiorgis Yerolymbos AIA begun its operation in 2001 replacing the favored “Helliniko” Airport designed by Eero Saarinen. Dedicated to commercial air transport, the main terminal’s building enlargement of its footprint to the South, would add approx. 98m to a 354m overall façade and would provide sufficient space for the Extra Schengen operational areas as well as additional concession and back of house space. The client requested to replicate the original architectural design, while upgrading the materials and construction systems technology. The project was the first attempt to extend the terminal beyond its original envelope. This was regarded as an opportunity to re-assess the building’s façade and morphology and set a new architectural discourse, upgrading the design of the entire complex.

NCAVED house embeds itself into a rocky, windy, island site

4 Feb 2021 News NCAVED house by MOLD architects responds to a rocky, windy site in Agios Sostis, Greece, by drilling down and embedding a house within the earth. The result is a sheltered home that is highly protected yet takes full advantage of ocean views. Yiorgis Yerolymbos The architecture was generated by projecting a rectangular grid across the slope, resulting in a three-dimensional ‘chess board’ of solids and voids. The rigid geometry is interrupted with the rotation of the outer axis of the grid. This rotation serves to open up the living area and provide wider views. Yiorgis Yerolymbos Longitudinal retaining walls of dry stone define the exterior of the dwelling and direct views towards the horizon line. Meanwhile, shorter transverse partitions are made of glass and open along their entire length.

Elements house is located on a rigid slope overlooking the bay of Molos on the east seashore of Paros island, surrounded by a typical Cycladic landscape. The view and the rigid landscape are the two main elements of the architectural design, which seeks the accomplishment of both the maximum use of the view in every interior space and the minimum trace of the building on the landscape. The panoramic view of the slope consists of southern Naxos, Herakleia, and Kefalos Hill with the monastery of St Anthony on top and the settlements of Marmara and Marpissa on its base.
