IN Thailand, legalising gambling has long been opposed by the majority of the population who consider gambling against the values of Buddhism, which plays a significant role in its culture and society. Currently, apart from horse betting and the government-sponsored Thai lottery, all other types of gambling are prohibited. However, the winds of change may be coming with a proposal to legalise gambling discussed in parliament in June. This comes shortly after the government decriminalised cannabis in the same month.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 17):  Maybank Investment Bank Bhd (Maybank IB) said on Monday (Jan 17) that AirAsia Group Bhd’s fundamentals have improved despite the budget airline’s Practice Note 17 (PN17) status under Bursa Malaysia listing rules.
