Taipei, Feb. 23 (CNA) The Yilan District Court on Wednesday rejected a request by prosecutors to detain Yilan County Magistrate Lin Zi-miao (林姿妙) in an alleged corruption case, ordering her freed on NT$800,000 (US$28,700) bail instead.
Sumitomo Corp is not liable for damage caused by the derailment of Puyuma Express No. 6432 in 2018 and does not need to pay compensation to the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), the Taipei District Court said yesterday.

The Yilan District Court found Yu Chih-hao (游志豪) guilty of negligent homicide.
While Yu had claimed in his defense that the brakes on the bus failed, an investigation found that the three-year-old vehicle passed a routine inspection in January and that its brakes, gearbox and clutch were functioning normally at the time of the accident, the verdict said.
