Hong Kong television star Mat Yeung Ming lost his appeal against an 18-day jail sentence for careless driving, after the judge highlighted there was “ironclad” proof against him and the penalty was already lenient given the seriousness of the offence.
Hong Kong television star Mat Yeung Ming is appealing against his 18-day jail sentence over a careless driving case on the grounds that there was no evidence he had endangered road users by deliberately driving under the influence of alcohol. The 41-year-old TVB actor stood before a High Court judge on Thursday (Sept 22) for the appeal against his convictions.
Hong Kong television star Mat Yeung Ming has been jailed for 18 days, disqualified from driving for two years and fined HK$3,000 (S$521) over a car crash in Mid-Levels last year. But the 40-year-old TVB actor was immediately released on Thursday (Nov 4) on HK$30,000 cash bail pending appeal, on the condition he remain in the city and report to.

Hong Kong television star Mat Yeung Ming should not have been allowed to reverse his guilty plea for careless driving and illegal window tinting, according to prosecutors, who also want to overturn his acquittal on a separate charge.
Acting deputy director of public prosecutions Jonathan Man Tak Ho argued in Eastern Court on Friday (July 9) that Magistrate Daniel Tang Siu-hung had erred in the case of the 40-year-old TVB star, who was involved in an accident on Magazine Gap Road in the Mid-Levels on Aug 8, 2020.
