jenna: let s talk about this new app. you heard about it before the break, it s called the ugly meter, that s right, it scans photos and rates your face or your friends or family on a scale of 1-10, 101 the ugliest, the ad shoots back phrases like, well you get the point. there s a lot of snarky phrases if you re not so attractive and some other snarky ones if you are, the inventer making it they say gives the users a good laugh but the ugly meter has an ugly side. some are afraid kids will start using it as a new tool for cyberbullying. let s talk about this ugly meter with the creators, joe oberline and ryan allen are our guests. guys, on the one hand, you re talking about entrepreneurship and innovation and getting
it s not necessarily a quagmire but if we start engaging in talks with the taliban, we can make it into a quagmire. takes between the north vietnamese and u.s. started in 1967. they didn t end until 1973. they extended the problem. they compounded problem. they doesn t resolve it. jenna: let s talk about the talks. why do you see them as a tipping point in afghanistan? the way the taliban doesn t see the talks to resolve the war. not a compromise. no insurgency in history see a compromise. they see talks as method of warfare by other means. you heard people saying now we re finally getting offensive against the taliban. they re under pressure. we killed dozens of their commanders. so why then would the taliban want to engage in talks right now? as a way of forestalling further u.s. military action. same thing by the way happened in vietnam. we had the strategy talk and fight. we would talk a bit, fight a bit. when the fighting got hard for the north vietnamese they would be more seri
disasterous result for us even if it is politically expedient for the obama administration as it seek as graceful exit from the country. that said, how do we win there? we win by continuing to fight. right now you have the u.s. forces make be inroads into kandahar. we have now much better intelligence on the taliban. we continue to knock out al qaeda and taliban leaders in drone strikes. we need better cooperation from the pakistanis, particularly going into north waziristan. there is a military challenge here but we re not fighting the second world war. we re not fighting the japanese or the germans. this is ultimately a ragtag militia. if we have the will to fight, the determination to persevere we can defeat this insure againsy but not if we re talking and fighting at the same time. jenna: interesting stuff. thank you so much for joining us today. bret stevens, the great article. the trouble with talking to the taliban, in the w is. j jon? jon: jenna, he ruined lives and bilked
