The Upper Sioux Community tribal chairman is asking Yellow Medicine County for clarity on the role of a weed inspector acting under county auspices after an incident on tribal lands.
The 57-year-old woman charged with arson for allegedly setting fires in the six-story apartment building in Granite Falls where she resides will be evaluated for competency to proceed in the criminal case. Her most recent appearance was Monday in Yellow Medicine County District Court for a settlement conference. District Judge Keith Helgeson on Monday ordered a competency evaluation.
Gauge Allen Grimes, 19, of Granite Falls, pleaded guilty to felony third-degree burglary before his sentencing Nov. 22 as part of a plea agreement under which felony charges of third-degree burglary, illegal possession of ammunition or firearms and theft were dismissed. He was sentenced to 36 months in prison.
