Highway Patrol Timothy C. Nagy, 56, of Beloit, was cited for failure to control after he went off the left side of the road, striking two mail boxes, flower pot and gas meter on the property on Viola Blanchard while driving on Georgetown Road in Knox Township at 9:47 p.m. Dec. 17. An abandoned motor vehicle was found overturned off state Route 39 in Yellow Creek Township at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was registered to a Newell, W.Va., resident, so the trooper called the sheriff’s office there and learned by Jeffrey D. Powers, 37, of Newell, who is believed to be the driver, had just reported it stolen. West Virginia authorities charged him, and the patrol is also expected to file charges.
Dec 24, 2020 Jeff Ketchum, 58, of Wellsville, and Jack D. Ammon, 59, of Wellsville, clipped pickup truck side mirrors while driving in opposite directions on Crawford Road in Yellow Creek Township at 5:38 p.m. Monday. Matt L. Stoudt, 17, of Salem, was cited for failure to control after he went off the left side of the road and overturned in his vehicle while driving on state Route 9 in Butler Township at 2:18 p.m. Dec. 16. Stoudt was taken to a local hospital with possible injuries at the request of his parents. Scott A. Morrow, 58, of Carrolton was cited for failure to control after he went left of center into the path of another vehicle operated by Nathan M. Smith, 41, of Hanoverton, resulting in an accident. This occurred at the intersection of state Route 9 and Speidel Road in Hanover Township at 5:36 p.m. Dec. 16.

City council will meet at 5 p.m. in special session to consider some legislation regarding the city’s finances, including the temporary budget, the wages and benefits of the city’s non-union employees, a contract extension for Better City, a city audit, employee health insurance, payment of certain vendors and an amendment of the budget ordinance by adjusting appropriations. At 4:30, council’s finance committee will meet to consider whether to recommend action be taken on these various measures. Both meetings with be in council chambers at city hall.

County Sheriff Deputies responded to a residential alarm on Grafton Road, Salem Township, at 6:39 a.m. Wednesday. The home appeared secure, and the resident called to say it was a false alarm. Deputies were called to a domestic dispute on state Route 39, Yellow Creek Township, at 1:43 a.m. Thursday. While deputies were en route, the female called back to say everything was fine with her and the boyfriend. The deputy spoke to both and they said they had been arguing but were now going to bed. Deputies were called to a domestic dispute on Trinity Church Road, Hanover Township, at 5:42 a.m. Thursday after having been there the previous afternoon. The man in the relationship had apparently returned to get his work clothes but his girlfriend did not want him there. She was advised of the process for obtaining a protection order.
