OSAKA, Japan World champion Anna Shcherbakova won the women’s free skate on Saturday to seal Russia s first-ever victory at the figure skating World Team Trophy.
Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto finished second with 150.29 points ahead of Russia s Elizaveta Tuktamysheva in third with 146.23 points.
Alison Schumacher of Tecumseh, Ont., placed eighth in the women’s free program. Gabrielle Daleman of Newmarket, Ont., was 10th.

World figure skating champion Anna Shcherbakova helped Russia win the World Team Trophy in Osaka on Saturday then gave Japan s antivirus measures the thumbs up ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
Shcherbakova topped the women s free programme with a score of 160.58 to lead Russia to its first title at the biennial six-nation competition, ahead of the US and Japan.
The World Team Trophy is being held in Japan less than 100 days before the start of the coronavirus-delayed Tokyo Games, which were again cast into doubt this week over virus fears.

Two-time reigning Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu settled for second in the men’s short program on Thursday, as Japan finished the first day of the World Team Trophy figure skating meet in third place behind front-runner Russia and the United States.
