The Northern Territory arts minister is calling for a national investigation into allegations of interference by white assistants that are creating "reputational damage" to the Indigenous art industry.
Remote art centres are central to the Indigenous contemporary art industry. They typically have a white art centre manager and other staff overseen by an Indigenous board.
Early this month The Australian published Greg Bearup’s investigation into allegations of art malpractice in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, a vast area of sparsely populated country in the extreme north-west of South Australia. The investigation has since trailed through the newspaper as new allegations, denials and updates have surfaced.
