Well, that particular question has been answered fairly decisively, although new ones have cropped up since then.
Candelario is coming off the best season of career, albeit spent primarily at first base, while Lugo is no longer in the organization or even currently in baseball.

Have the Detroit Tigers found their new first baseman?
The club announced Wednesday that they had signed Renato Nunez to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Nunez, 26, has spent the last two years as an everyday player for the Baltimore Orioles, getting work at first base, designated hitter and, occasionally, at third.

The Tigers are finalizing a one-year deal with catcher Wilson Ramos, a league source told MLive Tuesday night.
The news was first reported by Jose Rivera of WOW Deportes, who said the contract would be worth $2 million.
Ramos’ agent later confirmed the deal on Twitter.
