Originally from Sutherland, Rascal Martinez makes his home across the country. Before the pandemic he had a place to live in Nashville but the musician spent most of his time on the road performing with his guitar.
âA lot of time, during the week, Iâll play at retirement communities,â Martinez said. âItâs more of a way to give back. I love doing it. A lot of people often forget about the older generation, especially younger people. I play at a lot of memory care units, too. KEARNEY â Author Carolyn Scheidies lost track of the date when she wrote the first draft of âMarques St. Legerâs Dilemma.â
âTo be honest, I donât even know when I first wrote it,â she said. âIt was back years ago when I was doing so much writing. Iâd have an idea and I would go ahead and do a draft. Along the way, this one got buried.â
A health crisis six years ago put a temporary halt to her writing. She suffered a fall that affected her memory.
âI have several other drafts of books like that,â said Scheidies, who also writes a personal column for the Hub. âIn the early days of my writing, I wrote long stories on a typewriter. And then when I got a computer, I still had to type them over into the computer. So I have a lot of manuscripts that have never been transferred.â
