Sunday s Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) elections will be fiercely contested with former allies pitted against one another in some key constituencies.
A feature of the PAO poll is that a province is counted as one constituency, unlike the general election where several constituencies cover one province.
The election will be held for 76 PAOs, each looking for a chairman and PAO member seats to fill. It is the first time a local election has been organised since the 2014 coup-makers suspended them to prevent political disturbances.

The upcoming Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) elections may struggle to garner much interest from young voters, say experts.
The elections will take place on Sunday across 76 provinces, with the positions of PAO presidents and members up for grabs.
It will be the first time since the May 2014 military coup engineered by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) that local polls have been held. The council halted them out of concerns they might incite unrest.

The main opposition Pheu Thai Party denies that ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has wielded influence over the party just as activist Srisuwan Janya is set to ask the Election Commission (EC) to look into the matter on Wednesday.
If the claim is proven, the party stands to be dissolved for violation of the political parties law.
